Show news on your website with an RSS widget – step by step
An RSS widget keeps your website alive with news that updates automatically. Here is how to get started in five minutes – without writing any code yourself.
Published · 2 min read · By RSS APP
An RSS widget shows the latest articles from an RSS feed right on your website. It updates automatically, so the page always shows fresh news.
What you need
- An RSS feed, or the address of a page you want to turn into a feed.
- A website where you can paste HTML, such as WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace or your own site.
Step 1: Create or add a feed
Log in to RSS APP and create an RSS feed. If the site already has RSS we use it; otherwise we create a feed from the page.
Step 2: Choose a layout
Open the widget studio and choose how the news should be shown:
- News wall – cards with images in a grid.
- List – compact list with a small image.
- Carousel – swipe between the news.
- News ticker – scrolling headlines.
- Magazine – one big lead story and several smaller ones.
Step 3: Customise the look
Pick a ready-made style or change colours, fonts, corner radius and number of articles. The preview shows exactly how it looks on desktop, tablet and mobile.
Step 4: Paste the code
Copy the code at the bottom of the studio and paste it where the widget should appear. In WordPress you use the Custom HTML block – read more in the guide RSS in WordPress.
Does the widget slow down my site?
No. The widget only loads when it scrolls into view, sets no cookies and is drawn in its own isolated part of the page. It does not affect your page's PageSpeed or design.
Tips for a great news widget
- Show 3–9 articles – more gets cluttered.
- Use a keyword filter so only relevant news is shown.
- Use the same colours and fonts as the rest of your site.
