How to create an RSS feed for a website without RSS

Many sites have stopped offering RSS. Here is how to make your own RSS feed from almost any website – no coding required.

More and more websites no longer show an RSS link, even though RSS is still the easiest way to follow new articles. The good news: you can create a feed of the page yourself.

First, check for a hidden feed

Many sites have RSS even if the link is not visible. Common addresses are /feed, /rss and /rss.xml. The fastest way is to paste the address into the Find RSS feed tool, which searches the page for you.

Create an RSS feed from the page

If there is no feed, RSS APP can read the page and turn it into one:

  1. Go to Create RSS feed.
  2. Paste the address of the page that lists the news, such as a news or press page.
  3. RSS APP finds headlines, links, images and dates automatically.
  4. Copy the RSS link and use it wherever you like.

If we do not find the right parts of the page, you can enter your own CSS selectors for headline, link and image.

Choose the right page

You get the best result with a page that lists several articles in the same way, such as a news list, a blog or a press release page. A typical home page with mixed content often gives a messier feed.

Keep the feed up to date

The feed updates automatically. How often depends on your plan – from every ten minutes to every two hours. New articles are added at the top and old ones are cleaned out.

What you can do with the feed

  • Follow the page in an RSS reader or in Outlook.
  • Show the news on your website with an RSS widget.
  • Send new articles on to Slack, newsletters or social media.

An RSS feed shows the headline, a short summary and a link back to the original. That is how RSS is meant to work. Do not copy whole articles and only use content you have the right to show.
